The AK-47 is one of the most recognizable rifles in the world, known for its durability, simplicity, and reliability in harsh conditions.

Origins of the AK-47

The AK-47 was conceived by Mikhail Kalashnikov in 1941 after he was wounded during the Battle of Bryansk. While recovering, he began designing a weapon that would better serve Soviet soldiers.

Kalashnikov famously said:

“I was a soldier, and I created a machine gun for a soldier.”

The rifle was officially introduced in 1947 and quickly adopted by the Soviet military.

Development & Adoption

The design was influenced in part by the German Sturmgewehr rifle and was built to replace older weapons like the Mosin-Nagant and PPSh-41.

With the introduction of the 7.62×39mm cartridge, the AK-47 became a powerful, reliable, and easy-to-manufacture weapon.
